Emotional Expression

Put the colour back into your conversations.

Why it matters

A lack of emotional expression drains the colour from your conversations. If you're uncomfortable expressing a primal emotion like happiness, you'll rarely show excitement, joy or satisfaction either, because they're built on top of it.

So when you talk to new people about something that excites you, they can't feel it. They devalue it, or think you're being fake. Fixing this pays off in your personal, professional and social life.

The goal isn't to manufacture emotion by imagining what you should feel. It's to feel and express your own, real emotions.

Activities

Two activities, practised until they're yours.

01

Expression Sentences

Sentences designed to make you feel the emotions you're uncomfortable with. Because the situation isn't real, you feel safe enough to express them, and begin to access what you've been holding back.

02

Uncomfortable Emotion Monologues

A monologue is a dramatic piece with one character speaking to a listener or audience. You perform ones where the character feels the emotions you find hardest. You build conscious control, and learn to split your expression into emotional tones that serve different goals.
